Assessment of Foreign Vocational Education
When this process has been completed, you will then receive a document certifying the foreign qualifications you have. You can use this when looking for work. The document briefly describes your foreign education programme, and the corresponding Swedish qualifications.
If you wish to have your education assessed for recognition, you should send in a completed application form together with certified copies of your education documents to the National Agency for Higher Vocational Education at the address given at the end of this document. The assessment is free of charge.
You can, of course, start looking for work without waiting for the document. The assessment should be regarded as providing assistance to employers, which will enable them to compare your foreign education qualifications with their Swedish equivalents.
How do I do this, and what do I need to think about when submitting an application?
First, do not send in your original documents, send the certified copies. Certification ensures that the copy corresponds to the original. If you have been in touch with a counsellor at the Public Employment Service (arbetsförmedling), or at Municipal Adult Education (Komvux), you should first of all ask them to certify your copies. If you are working, you can also ask the Personnel Department at your workplace to help you with certification. If you are not in touch with such persons, you can ask a private person, who is not related to you, to certify the copies, by clearly writing their name and telephone number. If the National Agency for Higher Vocational Education needs to see your original documents, you will be notified of this.
Translations of your final grade documents in English or any of the Nordic languages are not necessary. However, documents in other languages must be translated by an authorised translator.
This is what you have to send in
- Completed and signed application form. You can download the form to your computer, and fill it in before printing it out. Remember to sign the form.
- Documentation on your education programme is needed before we can assess it for recognition. This means that you must send in certified copies of the documents that show the education you have completed. We need a copy of your examination certificate or other evidence that you have completed your education programme, and a transcript of the courses in the programme, together with the grades you received.
- Proof of your identity (Personbevis) from the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket). This is issued free of charge. If you are a citizen of the EU/EEA and do not have Swedish identification papers (personbevis), you should instead send in a certified copy of your passport (see previous section for how).
If you are a citizen from another country, send in a certified copy of your passport together with evidence of your application for a residence permit. The pages in your passport with your name and personal details are the ones that should be copied. - Information on any change of name must also be included if your name in the grade document differs from your current name. You can ask to get a proof of identity document (Skatteverket) with information about your former name or attach a copy of your marriage certificate.
